(42) I had to talk to someone when my father died and making sense of this first led to therapy and psychoanalysis (eventually). When I met Ruth, I had to see her and not seeing her was unbearable. I’ve daytime and nighttime work now and listening seems some way passed looking and reading. I’ve been working for at least 45 years and the work isn’t organised around exhibitions. It looks like something that could or should be put together. A prompt is reiterated and the work sidles up to psychoanalysis. If it tells a story, it begins with Ruth and what can’t be said. Beyond looking, listening is a strange possibility. In my case it’s not an easy thing to do.
